If MTV’s a “Diversity Champion” so is Survivor’s Race Edition

You’ve gotta be kidding me. This is a bad joke, right? Industry spoof?

Tomorrow night The Walter Kaitz Foundation will honor MTV Networks with the Diversity Champion Award for “culturally relevant programs [that] are the most outward demonstration of their dedication to diversity.” Say WHAT? MTV?

The tasteless purveyor of shows like Yo Momma —where teens hurl  racial slurs and insults at each other for ‘rivalry?’ C’mon, the only contest there is who has the most forked tongue with their hate speech! Kids verbally lambasting each other with racial epithets makes Survivor, the Race edition look like an HR enlightenment session.

Let’s not forget their ‘award worthy’ Where My Dogs At cartoon episode depicting black women in bikinis tied on leashes defecating on the floor. Or their raunchy romp of tacky exploits depicted in the Flavor of Love. What are they thinking? It’s like saying the Oreo cookie commercial with American Idol’s Randy Jackson should be applauded for employing so many black actors to do shout outs.

Perpetuating this toxic waste is absurd, and 180 degrees from award-worthy. Sound off.  E-blast your friends. Stop the misinformation. Sign Industry Ears’ petition. Then pass it along to uncork the truth to anyone with a brain.

Someone has to have the testicular fortitude to say “whoa, this is NOT okay.” I’m banking on some journalists to pick up this story and run like the wind. Pardon me while I make a few calls…
